BEIJING — The ongoing anti-pornography drive in China, which has been extended to cellphones and other mobile electronic devices, will continue through April, past the previously announced Chinese New Year ending.

A new campaign was jointly launched by five departments, including the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, to combat distribution of adult videos through cellphones.

The main targets of the crackdown are cellphone stores which provide downloads of games, music and videos. Public security units were ordered to increase inspection of cellphone and audio-video shops and cooperate with telecommunication authorities as part of the drive.

As of Tuesday, officials had reportedly blocked 1,575 porn sites and detained 41 people.
