Darklady Pens Alternet Article on Performer Safety

LOS ANGELES — Adult industry blogger Theresa Reed (aka Darklady) has published an article on AlterNet.com titled “Will Health and Safety Regulators Ruin the Porn Industry?”

In the article, she asks the question, “Should porn performers be required to wear goggles and latex gloves, and use condoms and dental dams for all body-to-body contact?”

Darklady looks back at the events that unfolded last October when Derrick Burts, known as Patient Zeta, tested positive for HIV, sparking controversy in both mainstream and adult communities over performer safety in porn productions and whether condoms should be made mandatory.

Many questioned the safety procedures that are taken on porn sets. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation targeted AIM Healthcare, saying its testing procedures were inadequate and that the foundation, which has since become a private organization, ignored California health code and failed to protect porn actors from diseases.

AIM said at the time that it complied with all state health codes and was bound by law to keep a patient’s information confidential.
