LONDON — Industry veterans William (Bill) Margold and Dian Hanson will be the recipients of lifetime achievement awards at the U.K.’s 14th annual The Erotic Awards to be held at the Night of the Senses Ball in London on May 20.

The event producers described Margold as the "Renaissance Man" of porn who is celebrating four decades working at almost every level of adult in what he refers to as the “playpen of the damned.”

"We are damned not on religious grounds but for sociological reasons by a hypocritical society," Margold said.

Margold, affectionately dubbed “Papa Bear” by porn folk, has been an actor, scriptwriter and director, agent, critic and industry activist. He’s also the force behind the Protecting Adult Welfare (PAW) Foundation and is campaigning for “21 in 2012” — a voluntary agreement by U.S. producers not to use performers under 21.

Legendary adult magazine editor and journalist, Dian Hanson is best known for her tenure helming Leg Show magazine from 1987 to 2001. Hanson said that translating the intricacies and tastes of the leg fetish into words and photos was a totally stimulating and engrossing challenge.

Hanson also helped launch hardcore sex magazine Puritan and worked on titles including Oui, Outlaw Biker, Adult Cinema Review, Expose, Juggs, Big Butt and Tight.

Today, Hanson is the "sexy book editor" for international publisher Taschen. Her projects include the authoritative, six volume “History of Men's Magazines,” the “Big Book of Breasts,” the “Big Penis Book” (with 3D versions) and the monograph “Vanessa del Rio: Fifty Years Of Slightly Slutty Behaviour”  that’s available in three editions.

The show producers said Hanson “remains dedicated to showing the world that good pornography equals good art and good fun.”

The Erotic Awards is organized by educator Dr. Tuppy Owens and was created to counteract negative attitudes to sex and sex workers in the media and elsewhere, "by honoring artists and activists who have devoted their lives to making the world a sexier, more liberated place."

Previous winners include educator Betty Dodson, publisher Berth Milton Sr. and filmmaker Derek Jarman.

The Awards also raises funds for Outsiders, a charity which for more than 30 years has been helping disabled people gain confidence and find partners.
