LOS ANGELES — The New York Observer has profiled XBIZ Award-winning performer James Deen, noting that the veteran star is the first choice of screenwriter/author Bret Easton Ellis to be the lead in a movie he is developing with director Paul Schrader.

The title of the article by writer Nitasha Tiku is "The Boyfriend Experience: Can Bret Easton Ellis Mainstream Porn Star James Deen?"

Deen, the 2010 XBIZ Male Performer of the Year, has received an enormous amount of media attention since Ellis first began talking about him in January. In February, the performer was featured on ABC News' "Nightline."

The Ellis-Schrader project is called "The Canyons." Ellis, who penned the cult hit “American Psycho,” first tweeted that he wanted Deen to star in the small-budget film noir. Schrader is best known for writing "Taxi Driver,” “Raging Bull,” and “American Gigolo," which he also directed.
