Feminist Porn Mini Con to Be Held at UCSB
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The Feminist Porn Mini Con will be held at UC Santa Barbara on May 8 to celebrate the publication of “The Feminist Porn Book: The Politics of Producing Pleasure” and showcase the impact of feminist and queer pornography on the adult industry.
The conference will take place at the UCSB Pollock Theater and the UCen State Street Room from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Confirmed guests include Jiz Lee, April Flores, Dylan Ryan, Sinnamon Love, Carlos Batts, as well as the editors of “The Feminist Porn Book,” UCSB professors Constance Penley, Mireille Miller-Young and Celine Parreñas Shimizu and adult filmmaker Tristan Taormino.
Scheduled events are a keynote panel discussion with the editors and authors of “The Feminist Porn Book;” a sex ed workshop; and a screening of “The Feminist Porn Show,” film clips curated by Taormino featuring feminist porn pioneers and recent innovators.
An excerpt from “The Feminist Porn Book" introduction says, “'The Feminist Porn Book' is the first to bring together writings by feminist porn producers and feminist porn scholars to engage, challenge and re-imagine pornography."
"Our agenda is twofold: to gather some of the best new feminist scholarship on pornography and to explore the emergence and significance of a thriving feminist porn movement. By putting our voices into conversation, this book sparks new thinking about the richness and complexity of porn as a genre and an industry in a way that helps us to appreciate the work that feminists in the porn industry are doing.”
Since its publication in February, the book has appeared on “The Joy Behar Show”, Salon.com, Jezebel.com and in Publisher’s Weekly.
Registration for the Feminist Porn Mini Con is now open. The event is free and open to the public for those 18 years or older.
