X-Rated Version of 'Fifty Shades' Movie in the Works
LOS ANGELES — Universal Pictures' “Fifty Shades of Grey” is getting a shade saucier.
The film’s producer, Dana Brunetti, told Collider that an X-rated version of the mainstream Hollywood flick is to be made alongside an R-rated version.
''What we're kind of hearing from the fans is they want it dirty ... they want it as close as possible [to the book],” Brunetti said.
''I always thought it would be really cool if we released the R-version and then we had an NC-17 version that we released a few weeks later,” she added. ''Everybody could go and enjoy the R-version and then if they really wanted to see it again and get a little bit more gritty with it, then have that NC-17 version out there as well.”
Adapted from E.L. James' best-selling erotic novel, the film will follow brooding millionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and his love interest Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), as they embark on a journey of sexual discovery. Steele strives to unravel Grey’s dark secrets and understand his fixation on sexual control.
''We do not want this film to be seen as mommy porn — we want to keep it elevated, but also give the fans what they want,'' Brunetti said.
Production on "Fifty Shades" began in Vancouver, B.C., last month. The movie is slated for a February 2015 release.
