Sasha Grey's Book Released in Russia
LOS ANGELES — Former porn star Sasha Grey's erotic novel 'The Juliette Society,' which was first released in the U.S. in 2013, has hit the streets in Russia.
The Russian publisher Eksmo compared the book to 'Fifty Shades of Grey' "in its artistic characteristics," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The publisher also said it would be interested in continuing to work with Grey based on the success of the Russian translation version of the book.
Upon the novel's initial release, Grey said the book goes down a new path in literature while promoting women's self-empowerment. The novel narrates a young woman's induction into a clandestine sex club in what becomes a BDSM-themed journey.
Grey, who retired from porn in 2011, broke through in mainstream when she landed the starring role in Steven Soderbergh's "The Girlfriend Experience" in 2009. She is fairly well-known in Russia; she took part in a promotional car rally in 2013 and last month was involved in some controversy when her photo was used in a fake news post related to the conflict in East Ukraine between Ukraine's government forces and pro-Russian separatists.
