BATH, U.K. — Lovehoney’s surveyed 1,300 men and women about how and when they fantasize. According to the survey, almost half of women fantasize about other people — typically close friends or work colleagues — during sex with their partner.

Thirty percent of the respondents report said they eventually end up hooking up with that friend that they fantasize about, while 26 percent said they would act on their fantasies with a co-worker.

The results for men weren’t too far off with 42 percent responding that they fantasize about friends and colleagues. Twenty-five percent said they have friends with benefits while 22 percent say they’ve had sex with co-workers.

Lovehoney’s survey found that 70 percent of women and 63 percent of men fantasize about sex with a new partner before it happens with 62 percent of women and 68 percent of men saying the experience lived up to the fantasy.

A third of women and 42 percent of men said they fantasize about a previous partner while having sex — nevertheless, 15 percent of men and 14 percent of women say this happens frequently. Sixty percent of women and 66 percent of men said they thing fantasizing is harmless.

“Lots of people do reminisce fondly about former lovers — it is a perfectly harmless thing to do as long as you are not intent on living out that fantasy if you are with someone else,” a Lovehoney rep said. “All Lovehoney research shows that sexual fantasies enhance couples’ sexual happiness and are a good thing. Sexual experimentation is to be encouraged because couples who are happy in bed tend to be happy in the rest of their lives.”
