SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Confusion reigns today at California’s Secretary of State office.

In a release Saturday evening, officials announced that the Safer Sex in the Adult Film Industry Act slated for the Nov. 8 ballot has been reassigned back to its original designation — Proposition 60.

“[T]he Secretary of State’s office is reinstating the original ballot order and numbering released in our first press release issued on Friday, July 1, at 1:09 p.m.,” officials said tonight. “We apologize for any inconvenience.”

On Friday night, the Secretary of State’s office issued a corrected list of proposition numbers for the legislative, initiative and referendum measures. The "Safer Sex" initiative ballot item was changed to Proposition 59 from the original published designation — Proposition 60.

Tonight, it reversed its correction.

The reassignment of ballot measures is a result of further review of the placement of one of the items on the slate, a vote on Senate Bill 254, regarding campaign finance and voter instruction.

Now, the condom initiative goes back to its original Proposition 60 assignment.
