Video: Jackman Voices Concerns Over U.K.'s Digital Economy Bill
LONDON — U.K. attorney Myles Jackman, on behalf of the Open Rights Group, has posted a video voicing his concerns about the Digital Economy Bill that now is being discussed at Parliament.
The video asks citizens to heed his warning about the privacy and sexual liberty risks posed by the bill that would extend provisions for age verification to access adult websites.
Jackman, legal director of the Open Rights Group, the U.K.'s only digital campaigning organization working to protect the rights to privacy and free speech online, introduces four problems that need to be addressed by lawmakers weighing the piece of legislation. In the video, those problems are broken down by Jackman, with the questions:
- What needs to change in the Digital Economy Bill?
- What are the dangers of age verification?
- Who will be affected by the bill?
- How would all of this be regulated?
Separately, the Open Rights Group has posted a new web page that includes updated information regarding the Digital Economy Bill.
